ICP-MS Determination of Trace Elements in Barite

    • The barite sample (0.200 0-0.250 0 g) was dissolved with HF (6 mL), HCl (3 mL) and HNO3 (1 mL), and evaporated to dryness. The residue was taken up with 4 mL of HCl(1+3) and finally the solution was diluted to 100 mL with water, and the 9 trace elements, i.e. Sr, Al, Ca, Mg, K, Na, Cu, Pb and Zn in the solution were determined by ICP-MS. Standard curves were prepared with GB CRM′s (GBW 07811, GBW 07814, GWB 07812). Re was used as internal standard. Detection limits of the method found were in the range of 2.2×10-7-1.51×10-6. The proposed method was applied to the analysis of barite samples, giving values of RSD′s (n=10) in the range of 2.2%-3.8%. The proposed method was applied to the analysis of 4 barite CRM′s (GBW 07813, GBW 07815, GBW 07816, GBW 07817), giving results in consistency with the certified values. Test for recovery was performed by standard addition method, giving values of recovery in the range of 90.0%-120%.
