    GC-MS Determination of 6 Phthalates in Foamed Polystyrene Products

    • GC-MS was applied to the determination of 6 phthalates in foamed polystyrene products. The sample (0.250 0 g) was dissolved with dichloromethane and polymer was separated by precipitation with 15 mL of acetonitrile. The analytes were separated on DB-5MS capillary chromatographic column, and determined by MS under selected ion monitoring mode. Linear relationships between values of peak area and mass concentration of the 6 phthalates were kept in definite ranges, with lower limits of determination (10S/N) in the range of 0.13-4.61 mg·kg-1. On the base of blank sample, test for recovery was made by standard addition method; values of recovery found were in the range of 85.8%-102%, with RSD's (n=6) in the range of 1.3%-4.6%.
