Application Progress of Attenuated Total Reflection Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy in Leather Research

    • Attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) teconology, leveraging its surface sensitivity, convenience, and minimal invasiveness, has been widely applied in the increasingly complex research of leather and its alternatives. Relevant literatures on the application of ATR-FTIR technology in leather research were compiled, and 3 main research clusters were identified through keyword co-occurrence analysis: leather aging assessment, type and composition identification, and surface modification characterization along with cultural heritage preservation. Combined with chemometric methods, a systematic review was conducted on the application progress and key challenges of ATR-FTIR in the aforementioned 3 directions, and prospects for the continued in-depth development of this technology in the field of leather science were outlined, aiming to provide references for its further application and future research (75 ref.cited).
