Application of Second Derivative IR Fingerprint Spectra to Origin Prediction of the TCM of Viola Yedoensis Makino

    • The second derivative of IR fingerprint spectra of the TCM, viola yedoensis Makino, were established. Samples of viola yedoensis Makino from 10 different origins were determined by FT-IR with resolution of 8 cm-1 and scanning range of 4 000-400 cm-1. The IR spectra obtained were transformed into its second derivative fingerprint spectra, and were analyzed by systematic clustering analysis and Fisher′s discriminant analysis. It was found that the proposed method can be used to predict effectively the origin of viola yedoensis Makino, and to provide a simple and rapid method for quality control of the TCM.
