Abstract
The capillary chromatographic column,VF-200MS,with high polarity was used in the GC separation and determination of n-butanol and benzene homologues (i.e.,benzene,toluene and xylene) in solvent-based paint used for wooden articles.n-Pentane was used as internal standard and FID detection was used in the determination.Due to high polarity of the VF-200MS column, effective and satisfactory separations were attained not only between n-butanol and benzene homologues, but also among benzene, toluene, xylene and ethyl benzene as well as among the isomers of xylenes.Detection limits (2S/N) of the method for the compounds determined were found in the range of 1.7-3.5 ng.Tests for recovery and precision were made by replicate analysis of a n-butanol containing nitropaint sample and by addition of standards of the benzene homologues, values of average recovery found were in the range of 87.8% to 100.0%,and values of RSD′s (n=6) were all less than 2.5%.
