    Hyphenated GC-MS Determination of Chemical Components in Volatile Oil of Michelia Champaca L.

    • Volatile oil of Michelia Champara L.was separated individually by 4 different methods of extraction,i.e.,by steam distillation (SD),by supercritical fluid extraction (SFE),by microwave extraction (ME) and by extraction assisted by ultrasonic agitation (UE).Thirty-six compounds were found in the volatile oil extracted by SD while 35,25 and 26 compounds were found in the volatile oil extracted by the other 3 methods respectively.All these compounds in the corresponding volatile oil extracts were identified and determined by capillary coulumn-GC in hyphenation with MS assisted with computer-retrieving.The peak area-normalization method was used in the quantification.Total contents of the identified compounds found in the 4 oil extracts were amounted to 92.62%,91.46%,93.18% and 95.53% (relative percentage) of the total peak area of respective oil extract.It was shown that there were some differences on kinds of compounds found in oil extracts obtained by different methods of extraction,but 20 compounds,including β-cubebene,germacrene D,caryophyllene oxide and caryophylene,were common for all the 4 oil extracts.
