Chiral Separation of Enantiomers of Metoprolol and Alprenolol and Carteolol Using Capillary Electrophoresis

    • A capillary electrophoresis was proposed for chiral separation of metoprolol, alprenolol and carteolol. The influences of types and concentration of chiralagent,pH and concentration of buffer solution used on the chiral separation were studied. In a buffer medium of 95 mmol·L-1 Tris-H3PO4 solution containing 15 mmol·L-1 hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD) and 5 g·L-1 carboxy methyl-β-cyclodextrin (CM-β-CD),baseline separations of enantiomers of metoprolol and alprenolol were achieved at the acidities of pH 3.2 and pH 3.8 respectively.A good separation of enantiomers of carteolol was accomplished under the same condition at pH 3.8,attaining the degree of resolution of 1.0.
