    HPLC Determination of Sudan Red Colorants in Daily-Use Chemical Articles

    • HPLC was applied to the determination Sudan red colorants including Sudan Ⅰ, Ⅱ, Ⅲ and Ⅳ in daily chemical articles. The sample was extracted with acetone-acetonitrile (1+3) mixture. The extract was separated on ZORBAX Eclipse XDB-C8 column by gradient elution with eluants containing different proportions of solution of A [HCOOH-H2O (0.1+99.9)] and B [HCOOH-CH3CN(0.1+99.9)], and determined with diode array detector at the wavelengths of 478 nm for Sudan Ⅰ, 500 nm for Sudan Ⅱ and Ⅲ, 520 nm for Sudan Ⅳ. Linearity ranges for the 4 Sudan red colorants were found same in the range of 0.50-50 mg· L-1, with detection limit (3S/N) of 0.05 mg· L-1. Using blank sample as matrix, recovery test was made by standard addition method, values of recovery found were in the range of 92.0%-102.1%.
