Resonance Scattering Spectrometric Determination of Bismuth by the Reaction with Iodide and Cetyl-Trimethyl Ammonium Bromide

    • Resonance sacttering spectrometry of the reaction among Bi3+,KI and CTMAB in a weakly acidic solution of pH 3.7 buffered with formate buffer solution was studied with a simple fluorospectrophotomer, including observation of its spectral characteristics, testing of influential factors to the reaction and choice of suitable conditions for the reaction. Linear relationship was kept between the magnitude of scattered light intensity (measured at 440 nm) and the corresponding concentration of bismuth ion in the range from 0.2-0.6 mg·L-1 under room temperature. Detection limit (3 S) of the method was found to be 0.003 mg·L-1. The proposed method was used in the determination of bismuth in a sample of bismuth aluminate,a drug for stomach disease;and test for recovery was made by adding bismuth standard to this sample, giving value of recovery equal to 107.3%.
