    GC Determination of Phthalates as Plasticizer in Disposable Plastic Cups by Liquid-Liquid Extraction

    • The liquid (200 mL) contained in disposable plastic cup was taken and extracted with CHCl3 (10 mL) and the extract was used for GC analysis, using SE-54 chromatographic column for separation with programmed temperature elevation. FID was used in the determination. Linear relationships between values of peak area and mass concentration of 5 phthalates were found in the same range of 0.50-50.0 mg·L-1, with detection limits (3S/N) in the range of 0.001-0.01 mg·L-1. It was found that the contents of phthalates dissolved from disposable plastic cups were obviously different with the kinds of liquid contained in it; the higher contents of phthalates were obtained with coke and soda water contained in the cup. As shown by the results of orthogonal experiment, highest contents of phthalates were obtained when the plastic cups were filled with water at 100 ℃ and kept for 40 min.
