Determination of Manganese and Titanium in Pig Iron by Polarized Energy Dispersive X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometry

    • Polarized energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (EDXRFS) was applied to the at-line rapid analysis, especially for the determination of manganese and titanium,in the metallurgical process of iron and steel. The X-LAB2000 polarized EDXRF spectrometer was used in the analysis;A thorough study on the various factors of analysis, including working conditions of the spectrometer for the determination of Mn and Ti in pig iron, method of sample preparation, and preparation of working standard curve, was made and described. As compared with the chemical analytical methods used conventionally, consistent results of determination were obtained by the proposed method, with values of RSD′s (n=11) less than 1.5% and time of analysis for the 2 elements shortened from 50 min to 2 min.
