    GC Determination of ·OH Free Radical and Its Scavenging Action

    • A gas chromatography method for the determination of hydroxyl free radical was proposed.The hydroxyl free radical generated in Fenton Reaction was reacted with di-methyl sulfoxide (DMSO) to form formaldehyde,which was then derivatized with 2,4-dinitro-phenylhydrazine to form the corresponding hydrazone.The produced hydrazone (HCHO-DNPH) was extracted with CCl4,separated with HP-5 capillary column and determined by GC using FID as detector.Indirect quantification of the free radical was carried out by measuring the peak area of HCHO-DNPH.Scavenging action for hydroxyl free radical of several scavengers was determined.The method was feasible for sieving of scavengers for hydroxyl free radical.
