GC-MS Determination of Volatile Components of Tobacco Leaves with the Algorithm of Heuristic Evolving Latent Projection

    • GC-MS with the heuristic evolving latant projection (HELP) was applied to the analysis of tobacco leaves for its volatile components. The dried and powdered sample of tobacco leaves was extracted with ethanol at 160 ℃ for 15 min by ASE. The extract was evaporated to 1.5 mL by N2-blowing. One μL was taken for analysis using DB-5MS capillary column in chromatographic separation, EI source and scanning range of m/z 30-500 in MS determination. The bi-dimensional data obtained were resolved into pure mass spectra and chromatograms by the HELP method. Qualification was performed by similarity searching of the pure mass spectrum with the standard spectrum in NIST database, and quantification of the components was carried out by integration of total volume and nor malization. Totally 78 chromatographic peaks were resolved, among which 62 components were identified and determined, amounting to 88.51% of the total amount of volatile oils.
