Abstract
The impurity elements, including V, Fe, Mg, Cr, Mn and Cu, in metal titanium were determined directly by ICP-AES without separation of matrix titanium. Sample was digested with HF, HNO3 and H2SO4 (1+1), and the complexation of H2SO4 was shown to be very effective to overcome the hydrolysis of titanium. Interference of matrix element was tested and eliminated by synchronous background correction. Analytical spectral lines of the 6 elements for the determination were optimized and selected. Values of detection limits (3s) found were in the range of 0.000 2%-0.001 5%. The proposed method was used in the analysis of two titanium samples, giving values of recovery in the range of 90.0%-110.0% with RSD′s (n=8) less than 2.6%.
