Abstract
The liquid-solid phase transition of 1,10-decanediol,1,12-dodecanediol and their binary mixture was studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and IR spectrometry.Values of their phase transition temperature, phase transition enthalpy and phase diagrams were determined. An eutectic mixture (xB=0.333,T=328 K) was found to be existing in the binary system, and also the hydrogen bond association as shown by the IR spectrum. The methylene group in the long straight alkyl chain was found to be orderly configurated.Based on the fact of its relatively lower phase transition temperature and higher phase transition enthalpy, the binary system was considered as potential thermal energy-storaging material.
