Charge Transfer Spectrophotometric Determination of Aniline in Water with Micellar Sensitization

    • Charge transfer reaction between aniline (as electron donor) and alizarin red (as electron acceptor) was studied spectrophotometrically. In an acetic acid medium of pH 5.0,a stable charge transfer complex, with molar ratio of 1 to 1 was formed between aniline and alizarin red,and the intensity of absorbance of the above complex was significantly sensitized by sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS).Absorption maxium of the complex was found at the wavelength of 525 nm,and linearity of the calibration curve was found in the range of 2.0-56.0 mg·L-1 with value of apparent molar absorptivity of 3.25×103L·mol-1·cm-1.The proposed method was applied to the determination of aniline in samples of waste water, and recovery was tested on the base of these samples by standard addition method, giving value of average recovery of 100.3%.
