    Simultaneous GC Determination of Degradation Products (Methylacrylate and Methanol) of the Copolymer of Ethylene and Methylacrylate

    • The degradation products,methyl acrylate and methanol,from the copolymer of ethylene-methyl acrylate were determined by GC with flame ionization detector (FID).The sample was leached with water and the solution obtained was used for GC analysis.External standard calibration was adopted in the determination.Linear relationship between values of peak area and mass concentration of methyl acrylate and methanol were obtained in the ranges of 0.1-2.0 and 1.0-20.0 mg·L-1,with their detection limits (3S/N) of 0.02 and 0.2 mg·L-1 respectively.Test for recovery was made by standard addition method,giving results in the range of 96.2%-100.5% (for methyl acrylate) and 94.6%-97.4% (for methanol).Values of RSD′s (n=6) found were less than 6.5%.
