Fluorophotometric Determination of Berberine with Micellar Sensitization

In a phosphate buffer medium of pH 10,sensitization effect of sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS) on the fluorescence of berberine was observed obviously,and the magnitude of increase in fluorescence intensity was found to keep linear relationship with the concentration of berberine in the range of 2.0×10-9-1.0×10-3mol·L-1.Detection limit (3S/N) of the reaction was found to be 1.29×10-9mol·L-1.The reaction was used as a method to determine berberine and was applied to the analysis of berberine tablets.Results obtained were in conformity with those obtained by the pharmacopoeia method with average values of recovery and RSD′s (n=5) 99.8% and 0.17% respectively.
