    Simultaneous HPLC Determination of 3 Industrial Acidic Red Dyes in Edible Packaging

    • A method of HPLC for simultaneous measurement of 3 industrial acidic red dyes (Acid Red 14, Acid Red 35 and Acid Red 73) in edible packaging was proposed. Ultrasonic extraction was used as sample preparation. The stationary phase was a C18 column (250 mm×4.6 mm, 5 μm) with mixtures of 10 mmol·L-1 ammonium acetate and methanol at different ratios as mobile phase for gradient elution, UV detector was used. Linear relationships between peak area and mass concentration of the 3 acidic red dyes were in the same range of 5.0-80 mg·L-1, with detection limits (3S/N) in the range of 0.08-0.15 mg·kg-1. Recovery measured by standard addition method at concentration of 10.0, 20.0, 30.0 mg·L-1, and RSD′s (n=6) were in the ranges of 89.4%-97.1% and 0.18%-1.6%, respectively.
