    Comparison of Determination of Polychlorobiphenyls and Organochlorine Pesticides from Sediments of Coastal Zones with Various Extracting Methods

    • In view of the complexity of the sediments of coastal zones, the sediment standard reference material (SRM 1944) developed by National Institute of Standards and Technology was used to study the efficiency of various extraction methods including soxhlet extraction, accelerated solvent extraction and ultrasound-assisted extraction on the analysis of PCBs and 12 OCPs determined by GC with electron capture detector (ECD). It was found that recovery ranges of OCPs and PCBs with various extracting methods were as follows: soxhlet extraction 87.9%-104%, accelerated solvent extraction 80.1%-106% and ultrasound-assisted extraction 78.6%-93.8%. These results were confirmed by practical coastal shallow sediment samples.
