HPLC Determination of Toluene in Organic Solvent-Based Cosmetics

    • Toluene in cosmetics was extracted with DMF, and the extract was used for HPLC analysis. Fortis-C18 column (4.6 mm×250 mm, 5 μm) was used as stationary phase and a mixture of methanol and water (70+30) was used as mobile phase. Linear relationship between values of peak area and mass concentration of toluene was kept in the range of 2-50 mg·L-1, with detection limit (3S/N) of 0.5 mg·L-1. Values of recovery found by standard addition method were in the range of 95.0%-102% with RSD′s (n=5) in the range of 0.24%-2.3%.
