ATOMIC EMISSION SPECTROMETRIC ANALYSIS OF STAINLESS STEEL WIRES

    • Atomic emission spectrometry with spark discharge excitation was applied to the analysis of samples of stainless steel wires with diameter smaller than 8 mm.A specially designed clamping apparatus was used for such samples.Cake-formed standard samples were used in the preparation of working curves, and the systematic uncertainty due to difference of shape of wire samples and cake standard samples was corrected by using standard samples of same kind of steel.Interferences of co-existing elements were eliminated by correction.Other analytical conditions, including the strict procedure of sample preparation,high-purity of argon and control of its flow-rate,the optimum condition of light source and etc, were studied thoroughly.Eight elements (C,Si,Mn,P,S,Cr,Ni,Ti) were determined by the proposed method, and the results obtained after necessary corrections were found in consistency with the results obtained by chemical methods.
