Determination of Dichloroacetic Acid and Trichloroacetic Acid in Drinking Water by Ion Chromatography

Abstract
A method of ion chromatography with direct sample injection was established for the determination of DCAA and TCAA in drinking water.An anion exchange column Ion Pac AS9-HC packed with high capacity anion exchanger was used for the separation of DCAA,TCAA and coexisted common anions.A solution of 25 mmol·L-1 Na2CO3 with flow rate of 1.0 mL·min-1 was used as eluent.DCAA and TCAA can be determined within 30 min with water injection of 500 μL,and Detection limits found were 5.11 μg·L-1 for DCAA and 14.32 μg·L-1 for TCAA,respectively.Recovery was ranged in 85.0%-103.2%.The method has been applied to the determination of DCAA and TCAA in source water and treated drinking water in certain city,with satisfactory results.
