Determination of Total Boron in Lead-Boron Polyethylene Shielding Material

The sample was dissolved with nitric acid to remove most of the lead,and after filtration the insoluble residue was fused with sodium carbonate and potassium nitrate.The melt was taken up with dil.HNO3.An aliquot of the sample solution was taken and lead remanied in the solution was removed by ion-exchange chromatography at pH 3.0.Boron was then determined in the eluate from the column by the alkalimetric titration.Results obtained by the present method were in comformity with the results obtained by the distillation method.Tests for recovery and precision were made,and the av.value of recovery found were 94%-106%,and value of RSD was 0.77%.
