    Spectrophotometric Determination of Trace Copper in Water After Separation with Cation Exchange Resin

    • Properties (i.e.adsorption rate,adsorption temperature and adsorption capacity) of Cu2+ ion on HD-8 cation exchange resin were studied by static method.It was found that in 0.1-0.5 mol·L-1 hydrochloric acid solution,the adsorption rate of Cu2+ was more than 95%,and Cu2+ was completely eluted from resin with 3 mL of 3 mol·L-1 hydrochloric acid as eluent.Under the optimized experimental conditions,enrichment limit of 2 μg/200 mL and enrichment factor of 67 were obtained by using HD-8 cation exchange resin micro-column.Based on these facts,a method of separation of Cu2+ ion by the cation exchange resin and its determination by spectrohpotometry in water was proposed.Water samples from Poyang lake was analyzed by the proposed method,giving values of average recovery of 101.5%,and value of RSD (n=5) 1.82%.
