Pyrolysis-Gas Chromatographic Analysis of Balloonflower Root Extract for Its Pyrolytic Products

    • The pyrolytic properties of balloonflower root extract were studied by the hyphenation of on-line pyrolysis, gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (Py-GC-MS).In an helium atmosphere, the extract was pyrolyzed at 300,450,600,750,and 900 ℃,separately. The pyrolytic products were directly introduced into the instrument and analyzed qualitatively and semi-quantitatively.The extract was added into cigarettes as a flavor. The results showed that: 1) there are 20 kinds of pyrolyzates at 300 ℃,33 kinds at 450 ℃,48 kinds at 600 ℃,46 kinds at 750 ℃ and 46 kinds at 900 ℃;2) the balloonflower root extract as an additive to cigarettes improved and modified the flavor of cigarette smoking, enhanced the notes of fresh aroma, and reduced its irritation. The extract of balloonflower root was added to cigarettes to improve its smoking character.
