Abstract
The capillary column gas chromatography in hyphenation with mass spectrometry was applied to the analysis of michelia multifloliate for its volatile constituents of essential oil, which were extracted from the sample by supercritical CO2 extraction. Thirty-one volatile constituents of the sample were separated and identified. Their relative contents were determined by normalization of peak area. The volatile constituents were mainly the sesquiterpene oxides (49.87%) and sesquiterpenes (32.08%),among which compounds with notable relative contents found by this method were as follows: caryophyllene oxide (30.25%),spa β-elemene (5.83%),helminthogermacrene (5.62%),n-hexadecanoic acid (4.02%),α-mourdol (3.26%) and β-betulene (3.25%).
