    Determination of Titanium in Ilmenite

    • Based on the dielectric property of absorbing microwave of ilmenite,digestion of the ore sample with conc. H3PO4 assisted by microwave heating was tested. It was found that the modified method of dissolution of ilmenite sample proceeds more quickly than the conventional methods of dissolution in conc. H3PO4 by heating on hot plate or dissolution by fusion with sodium peroxide,and that the results of determination of titanium obtained by the redox titrimetry using the modified dissolution method were in consistency with the results obtained by the later methods. A study on the structural analysis of ilmenite was also made by the X-ray diffraction method.
