HPLC Determination of 2-Mercatobenzothiozole in Rubber Products

HPLC was applied to the determination of 2-mercatobenzothiozole(MBT) in rubber products. The sample was extracted ultrasonically with acetone twice. C18 reverse-phase chromatographic column was used as stationary phase, and a mixture of methanol-0.01 mol·L-1 NaH2PO4 solution (80+20) was used as mobile phase. The UV detector at 320 nm was used. Linear relationship between peak area and mass concentration of 2-MBT was in the range of 0.1-10.0 mg·L-1 with detection limit (3S/N) of 0.54 mg·kg-1. Recovery obtained by standard addition method at concentrations of 0.10, 2.0, 10.0 mg·L-1, and RSD′s (n=6) were in the ranges of 85.3%-95.4% and 3.1%-5.6%, respectively.
