Head Space-GC-MS Determination of 1,4-Dioxane in Toiletries and Their Raw Materials

Abstract
Gas chromatography with head-space sample introduction and hyphenated with mass spectrometry (HS-GC-MS) was applied to the determination of 1,4-dioxane in toiletries and their raw materials. Qualitative analysis was performed by using the SIM mode with m/z 43,58 and 88 as characteristic ions,and quantitative analysis was performed with m/z 88 as characteristic ion. Linear relationship between values of peak area and mass concentration of 1,4-dioxane was kept in the range within 500 mg·L-1,with detection limit (3S/N)of 0.5 mg·kg-1. Values of recovery obtained by standard addition method were in the range of 92.8%-105.5%,with RSD′s (n=6) in the range of 2.50%-6.35%.
