    ICP-MS Determination of Copper, Arsenic, Molybdenum, Cadmium, Thallium and Lead in Cigarette Paper

    • Six metal elements, i.e., Cu, As, Mo, Cd, Tl and Pb present as impurities in cigarette paper were determined by ICP-MS. The sample was digested with HNO3, H2O2 and HF in Multiwave 3000 Microwave Digestor. Boric acid solution was added to the digested sample solution to complex with excess of HF. Mixed standard solution containing 20 μg·L-1 each of the isotopes of 115In and 209Bi was added as internal standard. Linear relationships in definite ranges were obtained and the detection limits (3S/N) found for the 6 elements were in the range from 0.002 to 0.16 μg·L-1. Recovery was tested by standard addition method, results obtained were in the range of 95.3% to 113.0%. Repeatability of the method was tested, giving values of RSD′s (n=5) ranged from 0.9% to 4.6%.
