    HPLC Determination of Hexabromocyclododecane in Expanded Polystyrene

    • HPLC was applied to the determination of hexabromocyclododecane in expanded polystyrene.The sample of expanded polystyrene was extracted with acetonitrile.GL Sciences Inc Inertsil ODS-SP chromatographic column (250 mm×4.6 mm,5 μm ) was used as stationary phase,and a mixture of acetonitrile and water (85+15) as mobile phase.UV-detection at 254 nm was adopted in the determination.Linear relationship between values of peak area and mass concentration of the hexabromocyclododecane was kept in definite ranges,with detection limits (3S/N) in the range of 140-200 mg·kg-1.On the base of blank sample,test for recovery was made by standard addition method;values of recovery found were in the range of 88.6%-103%,with RSD′s (n=7) in the range of 1.2%-6.5%.
