    XRFS Determination of Major, Minor Components and 3 Trace Elements in Bauxites

    • Major and minor components (i.e., Al2O3, SiO2, Fe2O3, CaO, MgO, K2O, Na2O, MnO, P2O5 and TiO2) as well as 3 trace elements (i.e., Ga, Cu and Cr) in bauxites were determined by XRFS. The glassy melt of bauxite sample was obtained by fusion, and standard working curves were prepared by using CRM′s and pure metal oxides of CuO, Cr2O3, Ga2O3 etc. Interferences due to matirx effects and overlapping of spectral lines were overcomed by the methods of α-coefficient and of using scattering line as internal standard. Results of 10 components and 3 trace elements found by the present method were found to check quite well with the certified values. Twelve glassy melts prepared from a same CRM of bauxite and the 13 components were determined by the present method, values of RSD′s found were in the range of 0.13%-9.6%.
