Abstract
Infrared Spectrometry with direct sample combustion by high frequency induction furnace was applied to the determination of total carbon in carbon-magnesite bricks. A definite amount of the sample (0.150 0 g) was taken and 1.0 g of pure iron, 0.30 g of tin granules and 1.0 g of tungsten granules of low carbon and sulfur content were used as fluxes. Simulated standard samples prepared by mixing difinite amount of pure MgO with high-purity graphite powder giving linear relationship in the range of (w%) 5%-30% of carbon, were used for calibration. Precision test was performed by analyzing 3 known samples giving values of RSD′s (n=10) ranged from 0.25% to 0.65%. The proposed method was used in analysis of a standard sample and 3 primary materials (sodium carbonate, calcium carbonate and sodium oxalate), absolute errors of results of carbon contents of these samples found were in the range of 0.008%-0.07%.
