GC-MS Determination of Dimethylfumarate in Leather

Abstract
A method for determination of dimethylfumarate (DMF) in leather by GC-MS was proposed. DMF in sample was extracted with ethylacetate and purified with neutral alumina, C18 sorbent and graphitized carbon black. The extract was concentrated to 0.2 mL in a water bath at 35 ℃ by N2-blowing. After diluting to 0.5 mL with ethylacetate, 1 μL of the sample solution was taken and separated on DB-5MS column. Identification of DMF was performed by inspection of NIST 05 spectra database, and its determination was carried out by external standard method. Linear relationship was obtained between values of peak area and mass concentration of DMF in the range of 0.02-10.0 mg·L-1, with lower limit of determination (10S/N) of 0.02 mg·kg-1. Tests for recovery and precision were made by standard addition method at 3 different concentration levels, values of recovery and RSD′s (n=6) found were in the range of 84.8%-88.9% and 4.3%-5.6% respectively.
