    Application of Least Square Method to Data Treatment in the Determination of Chitosan

    • UV-spectrophotometry and optical rotation method were applied separately to the determination of chitosan,and the least square (LS) method was used in the data treatment to establish linear equations between concentration of chitosan and absorbance (in UV-spectrophotometry) and between concentration of chitosan and optical activity (in optical rotation method).As shown by experimental results,by using fitting curves obtained by LS method for both methods of determination,more precise and accurate results were obtained,as compared with the conventional method.Moreover,the fitting curve of UV-spectrophotometry was found to be more precise than the fitting curve of optical rotation method.
