HPLC Determination of Efficiency of Interception of Low-Molecular Aldehydes and Ketones by Cigarette Filter from Mainstream of Cigarette Smoke

    • Eight low molecular aldehydes and ketones, in used cigarette filter were determined by HPLC, as a way to evaluate the efficiency of the filter to intercept these compound from mainstream of cigarette smoke. The sample was extracted with 30 mL of mixture of DRVT solution and methanol (10+90) for 10 min. An appropriate amount of the extract was used for HPLC analysis. DIONEX Explosives chromatographic column was used as stationary phase with mixtures of acetonitile and water with different ratios as mobile phase in the gradient elution. UV-detection at 365 nm was adopted in the determination.Linear relationships between values of peak area and mass concentration of the 8 compounds were kept in definite ranges with detection limits (3s) in the range of 0.07-0.15 mg·L-1. Values of recovery found by standard addition method were in the range of 85.1%-102%, and values of RSD′s (n=5) less than 6.8%.
