    Electrochemical Behavior of Catechol and Its Determination at Multi-wall Carbon Nanotubes Modified Glassy Carbon Electrode

    • Method of preparation of multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT′s) modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was described,and the MWCNT′s modified GCE obtained was pretreated with mixed acid of H2SO4 and HNO3(3+1) to enhance its reaction activity.As compared with bare GCE,the MWCNT′s modified electrode behaved to be significantly enhanced with its redox peak current and to have lower oxidation potential.Under the optimized reaction conditions i.e.the supporting electrolyte,acidity (pH values) of the reaction medium,scanning rate and etc.,linear relationship between values of peak current and concentration of catechol was kept in the range of 4.0×10-7-8.0×10-5mol·L-1,with it detection limit (3S/N) of 6.0×10-8mol·L-1.A simulated water sample was analyzed by the proposed method for its catechol contents and recovery were tested by addition of standard catechol solution at 4 different concentration levels,giving values of recovery in the range of 99.2%-103.0% with RSD′s (n=8) less than 3.5%.
