Abstract
A method for indirect determination of boron in steel was studied and reported in this paper. In a weakly acidic medium, boron was reacted with phenylhydroxyacetic acid and Fe(phen32+ to form a stable hydrophobic compound which was extracted with dichloromethane.Boron was determined indirectly by flame atomic absorption spectrometry via iron determination.Linear relationship between absorbance and boron concentration ranged in 0.05-3.24 mg·L-1 was obtained.Detection limit of the method was 0.036 mg·L-1.The proposed method was applied to the determination of boron in steel with results in consistency with the known values.
