Abstract
It was found by linear scanning polarography, that in an HOAc-NaOAc buffer solution of pH 4.48 a sensitive reduction wave of allopurinol was observed at the potential of -1.534 V (vs.SCE). Linear relationship between values of the 1st derivative of peak current at -1.534 V and mass concentration of allopurinol was obtained in the range of 1.0-100.0 mg·L-1 with detection limit (3S/N) of 0.7 mg·L-1. Precision was tested with standard solution of allopurinol of 100.0 mg·L-1 for 6 determinations, value of RSD found was 0.89%. The proposed method was used in the determination of content of allopurinol in its tablets, giving results in consistency with the labelled value. Recovery was tested by addition of standard solution at 3 concentration levels, giving value of average recovery of 99.2%.
