Abstract
A method of ion chromatography was applied to simultaneously determined rhamnose, glucose, xylose, fructose, sucrose, and maltose in tobacco. The sample was extracted by ultrasonic. The extract was separated on a Metrosep Carb 1 anion exchange column with NaOH solution of 0.100 mol·L-1 as eluent, and detected by pulsed amperometry. The linear relationship was found between the peak area and the mass concentration of the sugars in a certain range, with detection limits (3S/N) in the range of 0.012-0.055 mg·L-1. The recovery rates measured by standard addition method were in the range of 92.6%-105% with RSD′s (n=6) in the range of 0.6%-2.0%. The method was applied for rapid determination of rhamnose, glucose, xylose, fructose, sucrose and maltose from different parts of the cigarette.
